The course is aimed at librarians applying or planning to incorporate Internet into their professional activities. The course objective is to develop in-depth understanding of necessary knowledge and skills allowing participants to incorporate Internet into library information systems. The course focuses on developing hands-on skills to work with Internet resources. Participants will gain in-depth knowledge on how Internet technologies could be used in all-aspects of library management: classification, cataloging, bibliographical work, and customer service. In addition, the course helps better understand requirements for library websites, and helps learn methods of cataloging and description of on-line resources. Participants will gain comprehensive knowledge of Internet search techniques, obtain skills necessary to work with public and commercial databases, and familiarize with reference and bibliographical databases.
