Course outline: The course will be of interest to individuals interested in advancing their English language skills for business and everyday communication via Internet. The course aims not only develop necessary writing skills for private and official correspondence, essays, press releases, but also to enhance intercultural written communication skills, including the Internet. The course assignments and on-line conference participation will allow students to gain skills in structuring texts, taking notes, writing resumes and annotations, etc. One of the major aspects of the course lies in improvement of stylistic skills and vocabulary (official and colloquial language, idioms, verbs with prepositions, clichй, Americanisms, abbreviations), as well as syntaxes (beginning of the sentence, transitional phrases, means of expression). The course participants will complete assignments aimed to develop written communication etiquette, and to master orthographical and punctuation rules of the English language. The course also includes reference materials on the following topics: Writing, How to Write Informal Letters, How to Write Formal Letters, How to Write Essays, How to Write Reports, Writing Technique, Style, Punctuation, Capitalization, Dictionary.
